Hailstorms happen each year in various locations across Australia. Sometimes, more catastrophic events occur with giant hailstones causing extensive destruction across towns and cities. When larger cities or regional areas experience major hailstorm known as supercells (often referred to as Dangerous Storm Warnings on the Bureau of Meteorology severe thunderstorm warnings for giant hailstones), these can impact tens of thousands of vehicles and runs into the hundred of millions of dollars in insurance values.
Currently the major catastrophe is in southeast Queensland which has experienced numerous supercells during November and December 2025 – sometimes several supercells in one day. Some regions experience more hailstorms and supercells in the same locations.
PDR technicians have been dispatched to repair hail damage and this can take up to a year or more given the number of vehicles impacted and the severity of the damage.
The process of hail dent repair is to either lodge an insurance repair claim with your insurance company and pdr technicians or companies can provide a paintless dent removal quotes. And yes of course you can try to see if such claims can be made private but only the very lightest hail damage can do so. When hail damage is moderate or severe it is not viable to repair by not making a claim as the repair can easily go over the excess eg $1000 excess. Those that have high excess values, ie $1500 excess or more, we find have more scope to work with.
